The Synchrotron squad, part of the Client Platform Studio, provides the core architectural foundation for our mobile applications. We’re searching for a dedicated and talented Android/C++ Engineer to join the team and help us scale our platform for the future.

As our app continues to expand, we’re focused on keeping development smooth, efficient, and enjoyable for our feature engineers. That’s where you come in. You’ll play a key role in shaping our architecture so developers can work within clearly isolated systems, reducing cognitive overhead and build complexity—allowing them to focus on creating the features our users love. You’ll help define and maintain the building blocks that enable teams across Spotify to understand application state and logic flow more easily.

You’ll work closely with teams across the Client Platform Studio, partnering with feature developers, build configuration owners, and infrastructure engineers to ensure our platform continues to support innovation at scale. If you’re passionate about creating tools and systems that help developers excel, we’d love for you to help make Spotify even better for the millions who depend on it every day.

What You’ll Do
• Work within a collaborative, self-driven engineering team focused on improving Spotify’s mobile app architecture
• Implement and maintain isolation strategies for SEM (Software Ecosystem Model) compliance within and across repositories, enabling isolated development and testing to boost build performance and reduce dependencies
• Ensure smooth interoperability between Kotlin/Java and C++ in the Android codebase, using modern language features to improve efficiency and maintainability
• Use established service systems—either platform-level or internally built—to effectively manage application services and their lifecycles, ensuring scalability, reliability, and maintainability
• Guide app composition by thoughtfully integrating features and foundational components from across the organization to improve overall product quality
• Encourage strong engineering practices and contribute to technical strategy and roadmap development

Who You Are
• Proficient in Android development (Kotlin and Java) or C++, with strong skills in at least one area and some experience plus willingness to deepen knowledge in the other
• A collaborative teammate who takes initiative and can see the broader perspective, especially regarding developer experience
• Well-versed in software architecture and design principles
• Detail-oriented with strong problem‑solving abilities
• An effective communicator able to work well with cross‑functional teams
• Experienced with modular codebases and code isolation techniques
• Familiar with service‑oriented architecture and lifecycle management

Where You’ll Be
• This position is based in London or Stockholm
• We offer flexibility for you to work where you’re most productive, with some in‑person meetings but the option to work from home as needed
