Purpose
Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) seeks a dynamic and effective Senior Director, Leadership and Governance. Reporting to the Vice President, Leadership and Governance the incumbent will play a critically important role working with Affiliate Boards of Directors to support governance structures that advance the affiliates’ mission and their ability to provide health care, education and advocacy programs that are firmly grounded in racial justice and the advancement of health equity.
Delivery
Establish PPFA as an expert resource and model for governance standards and practices, ensure quality and consistency in the creation of a library of tools and materials, training, and presentations.
With input from key constituents, and working with an external consultant, redesign the Partnership in Leadership training program in support of building strong relationships between Affiliate Board Chairs and CEOs.
Identify and develop strategies to advance governance support (e.g., peer- to-peer learning, referrals to external consultants, and governance resources).
Ensure coordinated communication and outreach with Affiliate Boards in collaboration with Board Affairs and members of the PPFA leadership team.
Liaison to the Affiliate Board Leadership and in the planning of the National Conference Affinity Day for Affiliate Boards.
Support the Accreditation and Evaluation Department (AED) as a governance expert as appropriate to support the Accreditation process.
Provide support to VP, Leadership & Governance in CEO recruiting, retention and transitions.
Lead special initiatives and projects as determined by the Vice President.
Engagement
This is a strategic and facilitative role that requires a combination of focus and flexibility. The role requires a self-aware individual with strong emotional intelligence, self-motivation, strong communication and diplomatic skills. This role will primarily engage with the VP, Leadership & Governance, Affiliate Board Chairs and Affiliate Board of Directors. The incumbent will work with the Accreditation, Events and Conferences and Board Affairs teams.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
8-10 years’ experience working with boards of directors within a not-for-profit framework is highly desirable; additional consideration given to candidates with governance experience and those who have worked within the Federation.
Must have a record of accomplishment of successfully managing programs and people during times of change and shifting priorities.
Comfortable working with distributed, independent stakeholders.
Experienced in facilitating conversations with diverse participants that lead to positive outcomes .
Understands the importance of working collaboratively, and also confidentially, in moving work forward; able to facilitate amongst diverse constituencies and individuals
Excellent interpersonal skills, building strong and effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Ability to recognize and respond to problems with potential solutions and possible negotiations in a highly professional, confidential, and sensitive manner.
Experience in leading complex and successful collaborations, while ensuring that appropriate stakeholders are informed along the way, as well as gaining buy-in and support from as well as gaining buy-in and support from within the Federation to build well-supported and endorsed work strategies.

Starting salary: $150K
Final offers for this job will be based on capabilities and will be made within the parameters of the PPFA compensation program.
