As the Senior Manager of Accounting Close and Operations at Penumbra, you will take on a key leadership role overseeing major aspects of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, conducting financial statement analysis, and supporting the Assistant Controller and Controller with technical accounting matters and departmental management. In this position, you will guide and develop your team, take responsibility for critical components of the close cycle, and offer meaningful insights into the company’s financial performance.

Success in this role requires deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP, strong experience with the accounting close process, a passion for process improvement and team development, and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments to drive initiatives that streamline and enhance the close process.

What You’ll Work On
• Recruit, supervise, coach, and develop staff, set goals and assignments, and provide continuous feedback through performance reviews and development plans.
• Lead a team of accounting professionals responsible for U.S. general ledger functions and select international close activities.
• Serve as a key contributor to the monthly, quarterly, and annual close cycles, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements in alignment with U.S. GAAP.
• Oversee month‑end close responsibilities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and fluctuation analyses for significant financial statement areas.
• Guide the team in presenting financial results, identifying trends, and delivering meaningful insights to management.
• Support the Assistant Controller and Controller in managing the accounting department, including task allocation and issue resolution.
• Lead implementation and maintenance of new and existing accounting systems and processes.
• Champion automation and process improvement projects to shorten the close cycle, minimize manual tasks, and increase process consistency and standardization.
• Review schedules supporting SEC filings, audit requirements, and other statutory reporting, and collaborate with external auditors.
• Support management with special assignments and projects.
• Provide expertise in technical accounting matters.
• Maintain strong internal controls for the financial close process, ensuring SOX compliance and managing financial risk through oversight of accounting policies and procedures.

What You Contribute
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field and 12+ years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, internal controls, and full‑cycle accounting.
• CPA certification preferred.
• At least 8 years of supervisory experience is desired.
• Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• High accuracy and attention to detail.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and standard office software.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Working Conditions
This role is based in a standard office environment and requires on‑site work. The position involves occasional lifting of up to 5 pounds and the ability to move between buildings and floors. You must be able to work at a computer or other office equipment for extended periods, draft documents and emails, and navigate the office to access files and supplies. Regular communication with employees at all levels is essential.

Annual Base Salary Range: $165,000 – $224,805 per year
