About the Role:

Jezebel is hiring a full-time Staff Writer with an enthusiastic interest in the way gender informs our daily lives, from politics to culture to celebrity. The ideal candidate can suss out the most unique angle of any breaking story and turn around a funny, sharp response on a dime, but is also excited to write thoughtful essays, deeply reported features, and other types of longform. You possess a singular writing voice and file quickly and cleanly regardless of story length. You are flexible, ambitious, self-starting, and capable of working in a highly collaborative environment. You love blogging, but are also interested in and able to tackle heftier reported pieces through the lens of gender, ranging from the bitingly smart to the hilariously banal.

The ideal candidate is flexible, irreverent, and fluent in all variants of feminism. They are self-sufficient and self-disciplined, deadline-oriented, and naturally exhibit a strong voice and clearly defined point of view.

As Staff Writer, You Should Have:

A deep familiarity with Jezebel

At least 3 years experience writing multiple times a day, preferably for a digital publication

A proven track record of reporting and breaking stories

The ability to work with multiple editors at a time

A distinct writing voice and ability to meet deadlines while juggling multiple assignments of varying scope

  • respond nimbly to cultural and news events with related stories;
  • be capable of turning around stories ranging from short news pieces to longer features at a quick pace;
