ABOUT THE ROLE:
You will assess, enhance, and produce top-tier writing across multiple genres and formats to strengthen Grok’s abilities within one or more specialized writing fields.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Use proprietary tools to label, annotate, and improve AI‑generated text for clarity, structure, engagement, and accuracy within specific domains.
• Apply expertise in one or more writing specialties (such as creative fiction, game writing, or technical writing) to deliver high-quality curated data that elevates Grok’s writing performance for general use and for targeted audiences or use cases.
• Work with engineers and subject-matter experts to design tasks that improve AI writing skills.
• Help refine annotation workflows and tools for better efficiency.
• Shift as needed to support additional tasks that enhance Grok, whether writing-related or not.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
• Demonstrated command of English and qualification in at least one writing specialty (requirements listed below).
• Ability to critique and improve AI-generated writing for readability, logic, grammar, consistency, tone, creativity, and immersion.
• Strong attention to detail and familiarity with reference materials and style guides for accurate annotations.
• Impeccable grammar, spelling, and clarity.
• Excellent communication, analytical, interpersonal, and editing skills.
• Dedication to developing AI that produces expert-level writing.
• Highly adaptable and comfortable working under deadlines.
Applicants must meet the requirements for at least one Writing Specialty and provide verifiable proof (via URLs, ISBNs, award listings, etc.).
Unverifiable or NDA‑restricted claims will result in automatic rejection and disqualification from future applications to xAI.
Creative Fiction Writing:
For prose fiction writers — meet at least two of the following:
1. Verified publishing deals with major houses (e.g., Big Five).
2. Novel sales over 50,000 units (not including free promotions).
3. Ten or more short stories in major outlets (e.g., The New Yorker, Clarkesworld).
4. Recognition in major awards (e.g., Hugo or Nebula finalist).
5. Significant critical acclaim (e.g., starred reviews or major press coverage).
For screenwriters — meet one or more of the following:
1. Verified “written by” or “screenplay by” credits on at least two produced feature films distributed by major studios, networks, or streaming platforms.
2. Writing credits on ten produced TV episodes or 10 million total streaming views.
3. Recognition in major screenwriting awards (e.g., Oscars, Emmys, WGA, Nicholl).
Game Writing:
• 5+ years professional game-writing experience.
• Public portfolio demonstrating branching narratives, character development, dialogue systems, and measurable player impact.
• Published credits in notable games showing narrative design expertise.
Technical Writing:
• 5+ years of technical writing in manuals, API docs, software guides, or technical reports.
• Public portfolio with measurable impact (e.g., reduced support tickets, improved adoption).
• STC CPTC or equivalent certification.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field.
Nonfiction Writing:
• 5+ years nonfiction experience plus 3+ commercially or critically successful published books.
• Public portfolio demonstrating strong nonfiction craft.
• Awards, grants, or membership in relevant organizations; degree in a related field preferred.
Journalistic Writing:
• 5+ years professional journalism experience.
• Expertise in investigative reporting, feature writing, or specialty beats.
• Public portfolio with major-outlet bylines and notable achievements.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field.
Copywriting:
• 5+ years in copywriting or marketing writing with proven high‑impact campaigns.
• Experience across ads, email, landing pages, and social content.
• Background as Content Strategist, Copy Chief, or Marketing Writer.
• Portfolio with measurable outcomes; degree in a relevant field preferred.
Web Writing:
• 5+ years professional experience in web content or digital marketing.
• Proven SEO expertise with measurable traffic and engagement growth.
• Experience managing full content lifecycle.
• Public portfolio with strong performance indicators.
• Certifications in digital marketing tools; relevant degree required.
Grant Writing:
• 5+ years experience with at least $1M in secured funding and a 50%+ success rate.
• Strong research skills and knowledge of grant guidelines.
• Samples showing persuasive narratives, budgets, and evaluation plans.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field.
Legal Writing:
• JD from an accredited law school.
• 5+ years legal practice drafting briefs, motions, or contracts, or teaching law.
• Familiarity with legal style guides.
• Public portfolio demonstrating legal research and writing.
Medical Writing:
• Master’s degree or higher in life sciences or related field.
• 5+ years medical writing experience in regulatory, communications, or publishing roles.
• Expertise in protocols, manuscripts, grants, or educational materials with strong accuracy and compliance.
• At least two peer‑reviewed publications.
Academic Writing:
• 5+ years academic writing experience.
• Publications in top journals, books with reputable presses, 500+ citations, or h‑index of 10+.
• Portfolio showcasing scholarly writing and citation mastery.
• PhD required; postdoctoral experience preferred.
Poetry Writing:
• Advanced degree in creative writing, literature, poetry, or related field.
• Publications in respected journals, anthologies, or collections across a broad range of classical poetic forms.
• History of awards, fellowships, or residencies.
• One or more of: major press collections, publications in top outlets, major awards, or prestigious fellowships.
Note: Applicants whose work is primarily free verse should not apply.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
• Experience with AI tools or prompt engineering.
• Ability to teach or critique writing in collaborative settings.
• Familiarity with Google Workspace, Slack, Notion, and similar tools.
LOCATION AND OTHER EXPECTATIONS:
• Tutor positions may be full-time, part-time, or contract, depending on needs and fit.
• Contractor hours vary by project, with full flexibility and no fixed commitment; many projects may require around 10 hours per week depending on scope.
• Roles may be performed remotely worldwide, subject to legal eligibility, time-zone compatibility, and specific role needs.

• Personal computers must be a Chromebook, macOS 11.0+, or Windows 10+.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
• US applicants: $45–$125 per hour depending on specialty, experience, skills, education, location, and qualifications.
