The Koch Internship Program (KIP) is a paid, 10‑week experiential learning opportunity offered by Stand Together Fellowships, providing meaningful work experience with nonprofits across the country that address some of the nation’s most urgent challenges. During your internship with a partner organization, Stand Together Fellowships hosts virtual professional development sessions every Thursday from 1–5 p.m. ET, where experienced professionals guide you as you develop a capstone project on a topic of your choosing. Interns receive either a $5,500 stipend for full‑time participation (40 hours per week) or a $3,300 stipend for part‑time participation (28 hours per week).
Strong applicants will interview with both our nonprofit partners and Stand Together Fellowships staff, so early applications are highly encouraged.
You: A curious, creative, and self‑driven college junior, senior, graduate student, or recent graduate who understands the principles of liberty and is motivated to promote them. You communicate well in writing and speech and enjoy solving problems.
Them: Bureaucrats, local governments, and federal agencies that undermine Americans’ rights through excessive regulation and overreach.
Us: We push back. Pacific Legal Foundation (PLF) is the nation’s first and most successful public interest law firm focused on defending individual liberty. PLF has an unparalleled record before the U.S. Supreme Court, with 18 wins out of 20 cases heard, and nearly 200 active cases across the country. We strive to lead in an ever‑evolving legal landscape, not to follow the crowd.
The Strategic Research intern will join PLF’s Strategic Research team, which produces high‑quality social science research that advances PLF’s mission. The team collaborates closely with Litigation, Legal Policy, Constitutional Scholarship, and Communications. Interns will gain experience in activities such as:
• Communicating with public officials to obtain public records.
• Gathering, organizing, and analyzing data with tools like Microsoft Excel, R, Python, GIS, or Stata.
• Conducting literature reviews on topics including regulatory reform, housing supply, property rights, coastal land rights, and more.
• Creating internal data resources to support litigation, communications, or legal policy initiatives.
• Writing blog posts, op‑eds, or one‑page briefs related to PLF’s work.
General Information
PLF identifies and litigates significant legal issues to establish landmark precedents that protect Americans nationwide. Through strategic litigation, communication efforts, and research, PLF advocates for freedom in both the courts and the broader public sphere.
As a national nonprofit, PLF has offices in Sacramento, California; Arlington, Virginia; and Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, with about half the staff working remotely. Interns work remotely by default but may request to work in any PLF office.
If you believe you are a strong match, please submit the following materials:
• A résumé that highlights relevant experience in the liberty movement and your professional skills.
• A cover letter explaining why PLF is the right place for you, why you are committed to defending liberty, and what sets you apart from other applicants.
• A writing sample.
• A semester schedule if you are taking classes during the internship.
Stand Together Fellowships values diversity in experiences, perspectives, knowledge, and ideas, as these strengthen creativity, broaden understanding, and support success.
