Collabora is excited to invite applications for our 2026 internship program. Interns are paid for full-time work on a real Open Source Software project, helping to build tools and technologies used by actual users.
Who we are
We are a software consultancy dedicated to connecting companies with the open source community. We combine deep Open Source experience with an understanding of the challenges faced by businesses, non-profits, and governments. Our technical expertise includes system integration and architecture, graphics, multimedia, web engines, and communications across a range of markets—such as mobile, automotive/IVI, set-top boxes, smart TVs, and other specialized embedded systems.
Ideal candidates
We’re seeking highly motivated people who are passionate about contributing to Open Source Software, even if they haven’t yet gained professional developer experience. Candidates should:
• Be fluent in written and spoken English
• Show genuine interest in the technologies we work with. We typically focus on the infrastructure behind desktop, mobile, and web applications, including areas such as the kernel, embedded systems, multimedia, graphics, XR, integration, packaging, web engines, system services, and toolkits. Our blog provides a good overview of our work: https://www.collabora.com/news-and-blog/
• Have experience with C programming and git, plus some familiarity with Rust
• Ideally, show evidence of past contributions to any Open Source Software project, including involvement with the community
Applicants do not need to be students or recent graduates.
How it works
• Applications must be submitted by April 30, 2026. We review applications on an ongoing basis and may make offers to strong early applicants.
• Interviews for shortlisted candidates will be held in May 2026.
• Internships will begin in September 2026 and usually last six months.
• Interns will be mentored by one or more of Collabora’s experienced F/LOSS developers within a development team.
• Collabora has offices in Cambridge (UK) and Montreal (Canada), but all interns work remotely from home, regardless of location.
• The internship is 40 working hours per week.
• Compensation will be discussed during the interview and will depend on location and the agreed number of hours.
