At H1, we believe access to the best healthcare information is a basic human right. Our mission is to provide a platform that can optimally inform every doctor interaction globally. This promotes health equity and builds needed trust in healthcare systems. To accomplish this our teams harness the power of data and AI-technology to unlock groundbreaking medical insights and convert those insights into action that result in optimal patient outcomes and accelerates an equitable and inclusive drug development lifecycle. Product Engineering plays a pivotal role in developing and delivering our consumer-facing applications. Our team processes data from upstream sources, constructs robust data pipelines to ensure information remains current, and transforms this data for downstream use, providing our users with actionable, exportable insights. Our applications serve as gateways to our extensive knowledge base, which includes millions of healthcare professional profiles and their affiliations.

The Product Engineering Digital Health team is responsible for building and scaling the systems that power our Find Care user platform, which consists of multiple interconnected systems including Find Care API and Find Care Flat File Delivery, as well as new systems under development such as Find Care UI and Network Universe. These systems enable customers to search, access, and integrate healthcare data — including provider networks, insurance relationships, and price transparency data — into their workflows. As we continue to expand into new markets, launch new API versions, and deepen the breadth of data we collect, it is essential that our team grows and scales accordingly to meet these increasing demands

WHAT YOU’LL DO AT H1
As a Staff Product Engineer and API Lead on the Digital Health team, you will play a critical role in designing, building, and evolving the APIs and systems that power the Find Care platform. You will own the technical direction of our customer-facing APIs — driving architecture decisions, defining standards, and leading initiatives such as API versioning, schema evolution, and deprecation strategies.

You will:
– Own the full lifecycle of API design and development — from problem definition and schema modeling through implementation, versioned rollout, and deprecation planning
– Lead API evolution efforts to reduce redundancy, optimize payload size, and improve usability (e.g., sub-resources, summary objects, cleaner response structures)
– Partner with stakeholders to translate business needs into clear technical specifications and well-scoped Jira tickets, while remaining hands-on in the codebase
– Own and evolve data pipelines and transformation workflows that support API and flat file delivery across the platform
– Define and implement scalable integration patterns (APIs and file-based delivery) to support internal and external data exchange
– Drive system performance and scalability improvements as data volume and product complexity grow
– Lead troubleshooting of complex system and data issues, establishing best practices across reliability, observability, testing, and data quality
– Ensure data security, integrity, and compliance with governance and regulatory standards
– Mentor engineers and elevate technical standards across the team
– Leverage AI-first development practices (e.g., Claude, Copilot) to improve speed and quality of engineering output

ABOUT YOU
As a Staff Engineer, you are a self-starter who thrives in ambiguity and takes ownership across systems and projects. You bring deep expertise in API design, data engineering, and distributed systems, along with the ability to influence technical direction and drive alignment across teams.

You excel at balancing hands-on development with technical leadership and are comfortable owning initiatives from concept through production and iteration.

– You write clean, maintainable, and scalable code, and set a high bar for engineering quality
– You have strong experience diagnosing complex system and data issues and driving improvements
– You have deep experience designing and evolving RESTful APIs, including versioning, pagination, and backward-compatible changes
– You are comfortable authoring technical design documents and aligning cross-functional stakeholders
– You effectively influence architecture decisions and collaborate across engineering, product, and customer-facing teams

REQUIREMENTS
– Strong coding skills in Python or NodeJS for high-availability API development
– Experience designing and operating data systems and pipelines at scale
– Familiarity with orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow
– Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or Terraform
– Experience with databases such as PostgreSQL
– Experience with Git, JIRA, and CI/CD platforms (e.g., CircleCI)
– Proven experience designing and evolving external-facing APIs, including versioning, pagination, and deprecation strategies
– Experience with ElasticSearch, ETL/API design, healthcare data domains, or customer-facing data delivery systems is a plus
COMPENSATION
This role pays $155,000 to $180,000 per year, based on experience, in addition to stock options.
Anticipated role close date: 06/15/2026
