Position Overview
The Registered Nurse in this role is responsible for communicating abnormal lab results to patients in accordance with state licensure requirements. Key responsibilities include contacting patients, documenting all communications, following up on escalated lab issues, and coordinating with providers to ensure every interaction is handled correctly and in compliance with clinical and legal standards. This role is essential for timely patient outreach and regulatory compliance.

What You’ll Work On
• Review and interpret lab results from the pre-screening program, independently assessing flagged abnormal, urgent, or critical findings for patient communication.
• Contact patients to discuss abnormal or critical lab results, following approved protocols and staying within the RN scope of practice. Communicate clearly and compassionately, especially when results may have serious health implications.
• Provide patient education to help individuals understand their results and make informed choices.
• Use critical thinking to determine the urgency and importance of abnormal or critical lab results and prioritize outreach accordingly.
• Document all communications thoroughly, including results, concerns, and follow-up steps, ensuring compliance with signature and regulatory requirements.
• Manage time effectively to handle multiple lab reviews and patient calls, giving priority to urgent cases.
• Apply problem-solving skills to resolve issues involving lab discrepancies or data integrity.
• Use data insights to identify trends that support evidence-based practices and improved patient outcomes.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of healthcare regulations to ensure legally and ethically compliant communication.
• Escalate issues outside the RN scope to an on-call licensed provider (NP/PA/MD/DO) and support the completion of result delivery and documentation.
• Handle escalations from the Retention Team related to lab clarifications, discrepancies, or additional test needs, then communicate resolutions to patients and document appropriately.

Physical and Travel Requirements
• This is a remote role with less than 10 percent travel. Occasional planned trips may be required.
• Participate in an on-call system to ensure adequate coverage during team member absences.

What You Bring
• Strong analytical and communication skills, with a commitment to a patient-centered approach.
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple patients at once.
• Ability to work independently while staying connected to a larger clinical team.
• A key role in upholding clinical and legal standards through careful communication and patient management.
• Accuracy in data analysis and documentation to ensure reliable reporting of lab results.

Certifications, Licenses, Education, and Experience
• Active RN license with commitment to regulatory compliance; compact licensure required. Additional state licenses may be needed.
• BSN or similar degree preferred.
• Minimum of three years of nursing, clinical research, medical communications, or related experience.
