Role Overview
DroneDeploy has one of the largest drone-enabled enterprise customer bases in the world. We power end‑to-end reality capture workflows from planning → capture → upload → analysis for construction, energy, and industrial customers.
This Product Manager will report to the Group Product Manager of Aerial and serve as the primary individual contributor responsible for roadmap execution across DroneDeploy’s Aerial workflows. This role focuses on turning Aerial strategy into a concrete, shippable roadmap across web, mobile, and remote controllers.
This is a hands-on PM role: you’ll write (or automate) clear tickets, work closely with engineers and designers, dig into telemetry/logs, and use AI tooling every day to move faster.
- Fully remote role based in the United States. The PM is expected to have general availability for work between 9am – 5pm Central Time, with occasional working hours outside that window as needed to support a distributed team across time zones.
- Monthly travel (approximately 15-20%) for customer site visits, industry events, and team onsites. Occasional conference attendance is expected; international travel will be rare but may be required based on strategic customer or partner needs.
Own the Aerial roadmap: execute across flight planning, capture, and upload.
Help run the software development cycle: manage the backlog, sprint planning, and releases in collaboration with engineering and design.
Implement our hardware ecosystem strategy: help customers standardize on DroneDeploy across mixed fleets and docks (with DJI and non‑DJI drones).
Partner with CSMs, Solutions, Services, and key accounts: perform continuous discovery to turn field feedback into prioritized improvements, especially around reliability and high‑accuracy mapping.
Help reimagine the role of PM with AI: use new tools and workflows to accelerate discovery, decision‑making, and documentation, and share what works with the broader team.
Track and improve key metrics: monitor Aerial data, such as mission success rates, uptime, Aerial Pro adoption, and contribution to ARR and retention, and report progress to product and R&D leadership.
- In 90 days, you’ve published an updated hardware ecosystem plan that reflects our regulatory and partner reality, and you’ve run at least 5-6 customer discovery sessions and turned insights into an adjusted roadmap.
- In the following 6 months, you’ve shipped a major enhancement for one new drone or dock platform in active enterprise use, and you’ve also shipped a major enhancement for Aerial Pro.
3-5 years PM experience building enterprise software products.
Proven track record shipping field‑critical workflows with strong execution and written communication, plus deep empathy for those field workflows where safety, reliability, and data trust are non‑negotiable.
Comfortable working with telemetry and logs to understand real‑world behavior.
AI‑forward: regularly using AI tools and is excited to push what an AI‑augmented PM can do across research, analysis, prototyping, and documentation.
Experience building geospatial, construction, or reality capture software is preferred.
- Experience with drones, robotics, or autonomous systems (flight planning, SDK‑based integrations, MAVLink) is preferred.
Familiarity with inspection, energy, or agriculture workflows is preferred.
Field‑driven impact: You’ll spend time on job sites and with enterprise customers, seeing first‑hand how aerial data powers billion‑dollar projects (e.g., data centers, energy infrastructure, mining, and industrial builds), and you’ll see your roadmap choices reflected in how those teams plan, build, and verify work every day.
You’ll be at the center of a major hardware + software inflection point: mixed fleets, docks, and BVLOS operations, with DroneDeploy as the hardware‑agnostic reality capture OS.
- You’ll join an AI‑native product team, experimenting with how AI transforms both PM workflows and end‑user experiences.
- Company stability with startup energy: DroneDeploy operates as a profitable‑growth company with strong product‑market fit and a vast customer base. Customers rely on us so deeply that losing Aerial capabilities would be immediately painful, which means your work is central to how we “choose our own destiny” as a business.
