Amanda
Scanned Inc.
- Department Operations Take the reins of day-to-day marketing department operations in support of the company’s current and long-term overall objectives and goals
- Supervision & Responsibility Direct supervision and responsibility for the development, implementation, growth, upkeep, and completion of all department projects — product marketing, customer experience, content experience, SEO, advertising, eCommerce and marketplace, sales, customer and public communications, and all marketing and product launch campaigns
- Customer Lifecycle & Product Marketing Roadmaps With dexterity and persistence, research and analyze goals, metrics, data, user feedback, and market trends to strategize and improve our product marketing roadmap and customer lifecycle marketing (omg, so many buzzwords)
- Tinker & Conquer Experiment, adapt, and implement new strategies by analyzing platform performance metrics, conducting A/B experiments, and testing new platform features as they become available
- Systems & Tools Discover and vet efficient services, tools, processes, and workflows for managing ongoing marketing activities. Then, integrate, automate, and optimize tools, systems, and workflows to improve monitoring and on-the-fly adjustments to projects as necessary. (i.e., play with shit and implement the things that don’t suck)
- Team Leadership Identify, source, hire, and oversee department staffing needs — in-house staff, services, or third-party consultants — to manage, support, develop, and grow your team and department’s capacity. (Skeezy tacticians need not apply)
- Reports & Strategy Prepare regular reports and asynchronous presentations on marketing efforts, goals, metrics (e.g., ROI, KPIs, and other applicable acronyms, etc.), and budgets for the Director of Operations, Chief Creative Officer, and CEO. Provide information about where we’re kicking ass, where we’re having our asses kicked, and the actions we’ll take moving forward.
- ¯(ツ)/¯ Other responsibilities based on your individual strengths, abilities, and interests (sorry, vague, but we haven’t met yet)
All the buzzwords and professional jargon aside, we’re looking for a real person who appreciates clever marketing, leads projects well, and will roll up their sleeves to get shit done. We need someone fueled by progress, who pushes creative boundaries and has a deep understanding of the art of product marketing with a passion for customer experience.
Our ideal candidate is, at their core, a storyteller — someone content-obsessed with the ability to research and understand complicated concepts, size up their audience, then clearly and concisely explain things in ways that resonate with their audience. They must genuinely grasp our customer’s experiences and develop clever, empathetic marketing strategies that use a smart interplay between words and visuals to translate our product’s features and benefits into relatable and valuable content — all while respecting customer’s time and attention.
Their organizational, communication, and leadership skills are second to none. They enjoy researching, analyzing, and developing innovative solutions or improvements to standardize replicable strategies. They’ll use these skills to work closely with company leadership to strategize and develop long-term plans that initiate new levels of creativity and success at Scanned Inc.
Their goal is to safeguard and improve the efficiency of the marketing department to facilitate accelerating the growth and long-term success of our brands and products across multiple markets and platforms. They’ll need strong, proven, foundational skills in marketing processes and leadership. They’ll often need to process complex information, search for the actionable point, make a realistic game plan, and see it through to completion. Their strong attention to detail and results is essential. So much so, they’d even go so far to demonstrate their strong attention to detail by including the word “banana” in their answer to the last question of this application.
They must be competent and able to plan many different kinds of marketing activities. They’ll have the ability to balance multiple ongoing projects on a daily basis, the ability to change priorities quickly, and the ability to work well under pressure (e.g., campaigns, launches, and other time-sensitive projects may throw last-minute or unforeseeable curveballs). They’ll have perseverance and patience when dealing with complicated matters and a curiosity in learning how and why things work. They’ll prioritize asking “shouldwe do this?” over “couldwe do this?”
Ideally, they’d have experience with product development, hardware/software UX, and/or customer support but it’s not a requirement.
We aren’t looking to hire a Director of Marketing who sees their primary role as simply telling others what to figure out and watching presentations from staff from afar, abstracting themselves from the actual work.
This position’s success is all about day-to-day execution. In addition to assembling a plan, strategy, or process, they’ll need to actively make sure things are moving forward and getting done on a daily and weekly basis. They’ll take direct responsibility for the department’s end goals, timelines, and ensuring your team accomplishes measurable goals and contributes to the company for short and long-term success.
What Our Hiring Process Looks Like
Aside from an initial phone screen and final interview, we’ve eliminated the annoying process of “let’s have a million different calls with a million different people to say the same million things” and developed an asynchronous written “interview kit” — it interactively lets us get to know you better and lets you get to know us better.
How it Works:
- You submit your resume and answers to the application questions (yes, we read them in entirety)
- Those selected to move forward will have a 20-minute chat/phone screen with a senior person at the company
- Those who are then chosen to move forward will be asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement and then offered a written “interview kit.” We like to be transparent about who we are and what we’re about, so you can decide if it’s a good fit for you to pursue a position with us
- Those who move forward from there will have a video call interview with our executive team as part of a review of final candidates.
- That’s it — if you get past all those steps and are selected for the position, you’ll get a job offer, you’ll (hopefully) accept, and 🎉 we’ll do great things together!
