As a Biologist I, you will be responsible for supporting the delivery of fisheries and aquatic resources-related services as part of a team working on Ensero projects.
Responsibilities

    • Supports the delivery of fisheries and aquatic resources-related services for clients, including working with other team members to collect, manage and interpret data for reporting purposes.
    • Support the data management and interpretation for mining clients in the Yukon and BC supporting their environmental assessment and regulatory applications and water license application review processes.
    • Analyzes and interpret environmental data, including direct experience with the field collection of water quality, flows, benthic invertebrates using CABIN protocol, fish inventory and habitat assessments, aquatic sediment, and periphyton samples.
    • Conducts summary reporting and technical reporting for internal and external (e.g. regulatory applications) requirements and generally supports the project execution from field mobilization to report delivery.
    • Collects fish and aquatic resources data as listed above including maintaining custody of samples and maintaining monitoring instrumentation such as YSIs.
    • Preparation of Chain of Custody documents and sample shipments to labs.
    • Remote field work with limited reception and access (often via helicopter only)
    • Researching and compiling relevant information on supporting environmental and fish and aquatic resources data from public registries, government offices, and/or library or internet services such as FISS, GIS, scholarly articles and peer reviewed publications.
    • Compiling summary tables and result figures including comparisons against appropriate guidelines or thresholds for the protection of aquatic life.
    • Supports the writing and development of scope proposals and cost estimates for clients.
    • Provide technical input to projects within your area(s) of expertise.
    • Interface with other technical experts and colleagues to achieve multidisciplinary project goals; and work well together as a member of the highly driven, motivated and supportive team.
    • Other related duties as required.
Minimum Experience & Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
    • Valid driver’s license
    • CABIN certification an asset
    • Electrofishing certification an asset
Experience

    • 2 – 4 years of previous fisheries and aquatic resources experience working in environmental consulting or the A/E/C industry.
    • Ability to work effectively with team members as well as independently
    • Knowledge of the principles and standards of scientific study, field investigation and sampling, research and documentation
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple tasks and deadlines
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and other business software such as GIS, Google Earth, Excel stats, R statistical software.
    • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively and work independently or as part of a team
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively within the team and with clients on the ground and stakeholders at all levels.
Preferred Qualifications

    • Post-graduate education (graduate level course, short course, Masters, etc.)
    • First Aid
Working Conditions

    • Ability to lift a minimum of 15 pounds
    • Field work may be required in cold conditions
    • Travel required
$30 – $48 an hour
