As the Engineer for Platform Services you will provide technical engineering and implementation services for the planning, design, integration, and testing of Enterprise Cross-Domain Services (ECDS) on RHEL platform. You will interface with the client in the design process to translate security and business requirements into technical designs. You will also coordinate designs with enterprise architects, service consumers, and certification and accreditation authorities. Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain RHEL systems to support business processing requirements.
- Provide top level technical support, assist in the evaluation of new products and services, and may manage vendor SLA.
- Networking and storage-related switching, routing. Configuring static routes, packet filtering, and network address translation.
- Implement, design, and manage complex Virtual and physical RHEL server infrastructures. SME in provisioning Servers, Various hypervisors and management platforms (vSphere/vCenter, VCAC).
- Implement and maintain system management software, as well as research, analyze, and implement software patches and Hardware modifications to resolve deficiencies. Setting kernel runtime parameters & Shell scripting for automation.
- Perform capacity and resource planning by assessing risks and developing contingency plans.
- Maintain production change control schedule and, when needed, assist in the change control.
- Support and schedule operating systems installations and upgrades, as well as layered software packages, in accordance with established IT policies and procedures. Software automation, Puppet preferred.
- Assist with the configuration and maintenance of physical and logical components.
- Monitor, analyze, and tune the technical system to achieve optimal performance levels.
- Ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive technical system configuration and database library of all supporting documentation.
- Develops business cases and gains basic understanding of project and operational budgeting.
- Assists development team with modeling, physical design and application tuning.
- Assists in the recommendation of strategies for data center and infrastructure management from business continuity, DRP, monitoring, storage, security.
- Routinely audits hardware and software to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, procedures, and configuration guidelines.
- Implements and use backup and restore techniques.
- Mentors less experienced administrators on an ongoing and often formal basis.
- Solid knowledge and experience with Red Hat (RHEL) OS (4x, 5x, 6x) and application delivery/packaging solutions, including
- RPM consolidation, critical patch management using Satellite, Kernel tuning and Shell scripting (bash, perl).
- Experience with VMware, SRM, console management, and virtualization system backup capabilities.
