At Defy, you will tackle world-changing challenges that have never been solved before, such as: Designing a machine learning model that assesses student performance and optimizes their learning path Building innovative ways for formerly incarcerated individuals to learn online Reimagining ways for students and business executives to collaborate and connect online Building technology that formerly incarcerated men and women can interact with like butter

Skills Ruby-on-Rails, python or other dynamic programming language MySQL, MongoDB,AWS, Redis Github or similar software repository Proficient working in a Linux environment

You should have depth and experience with some overlap of the above. We like generalists, but by no means require a unicorn. We prefer T-shaped expertise—with depth in one area and broad interest in developing other areas.

The most important characteristic we look for is that you’re able to figure out what should be done and get it done—this requires thoughtfulness with a bias towards taking action and assuming responsibility. This is absolutely crucial in a small startup team, and for this reason, we prefer that you already have demonstrated this experience working in a prior startup.
