Responsibilities of the role:

• You will work in cross discipline, agile and distributed teams within the UK to deliver solutions to large corporate clients across multiple sectors
• You will work as a developer to deliver high quality, distributed, JVM-based solutions that meet the demanding challenges of usability, resilience, performance, scalability and security
• You will be working in a community of Software Engineers and help contribute to the continuous improvement of the development process, practices, tools and techniques
• You are expected to be fully UK mobile and when necessary required to work away from home (Monday to Friday)
• You will be expected to cooperate with government security checks for certain types of projects (e.g. SC clearance)
• You will be expected to mentor those less experienced than you and share your knowledge and experience with those around you, and. At higher grades this will be outside of the company as well as within it

Key skills/experience:

• Excellent knowledge of Java (up to and including Java 9) and open source technologies and frameworks
• Deep understanding of the core XP practices of TDD, Pair Programming, and CI/CD
• Using object oriented, reactive and functional development styles and design patterns, to produce solutions optimised for the Digital enterprise
• Demonstrable experience in at least one technology stack, including a selection of the following: Spring (e.g. Core, MVC, Integration, Data, Boot/Cloud), HTML5/JavaScript frameworks (e.g. Angular, NodeJS), Integration Technologies (Spring Integration, Camel, Microservices, REST, JSON)
• Some experience in another JVM language (e.g. Scala, Groovy, JRuby) is also preferable
• Experience of working in agile teams and working in an agile manner in a commercial environment
• Good awareness of Dev Ops – including Continuous Integration and Delivery using agile Configuration Management, Environment Management, Release Management practices
• Contributions to the open source development community: Blog posts, conference presentations, open source contributions
