What You Will Do:
Our client has a few larger projects as well as ongoing projects that bringing on this role will help us complete. The following has been scoped for H1 of 2023:
Various landing page needs: they consistently have landing pages that they are needing to design: A/B testing, lead landing pages, buyer persona-specific landing pages, etc.
*
Marketing Skinny Site: As they determine what this means for a product, they will be able to lean on them to create this “site”
Marketing Website: This is the largest project they will have ever embarked on for marketing materials. It will be critical for us to have a dedicated designer to work on this project in order for us to meet their end of H1 timelines.
*
Edits and Updates to Existing Site Pages: They have a CRM available to us but that gives us only so much control over the website. For pages they don’t have the ability to update they will lean on this designer to create larger design changes.
Special Pages: Things like Theses and other special landing pages will be in the hands of this designer.

Challenge Overview:
As our client has expanded their design staff, they have successfully filled a few department rolls that include:
Junior Graphic Designer (Marketing)
*
Junior Graphic Designer (Research)
Product Design Team (director + 3 full time product designers)
Although this has improved their design capabilities greatly, they continue to have a gap in website design capabilities. Currently product design and members of the FE team have been assisting marketing, sales and other non-product teams with various website design needs (namely landing pages), the number of requests has increasingly become more difficult for each team to forfill without having this direct expertise.
The Proposal:
With this challenge in mind, marketing is proposing to bring on a Website Design contractor to ensure these projects can be handled in a timely manner, but more importantly, by someone with expertise in this area of needs.
Marketing proposes to begin a search process to determine a Website Design contractor that they can bring on in a retainer capacity that would start Febraury 1, in time for their marketing website project to begin. This will allow us to tap into them on a regular basis without having to hire this person on full time. They propose to start them on a 3-month retainer and renewal phase every 3 months. To provide more details on this:
Product Design vs. Graphic Design vs. Web Design
Our client has a few different design units, but is lacking a web design unit. Explaining the difference should help paint the picture of the proposal need
Product Design: Generally involved in every aspect of the product design process. Consists of user flows, components and interactions a customer or user would need to solve a problem or complete a tasks. When people are logged into a product, that’s more where product design comes into play for a customer. How does the customer use the product? That’s where product design takes the reigns. Typically on a product teams.
*
Graphic Design: Though you hypothetically can find a graphic designer that is a web designer, it is a very difficult role to fill with one person. Most graphic designers focus on static or motion graphics for various collateral needs including sales enablement materials, social media graphics, brand-related graphics. They can support a web designer with graphical elements OR scope out a wireframe, but typically they are unable to design the website containers to pass off to FE. Our client’s graphic designers are both more traditional designers that fit into this specific static/motion category (Evan/MK). Typically on marketing teams.
Web Design: These designers focus more on the marketing, sales, features, and generally all information a person might need to know how to interact with a product on a site. Website designers are creating the more static elements of the website and generally are helping a customer navigate various parts of a website that allows them to learn, and understand things, and ultimately convert. Typically on marketing teams.
