What you’ll really be doing

• Setting development teams up for success by helping them overcome the tricky bits before they get tricky.
• Developing a long term vision for our systems architecture in collaboration with other Engineering Solution Leads.
• Creating technical standards, such as design constraints and code conventions.
• Finding different ways of accomplishing our goals, weighing the short and long term, and providing stakeholders with options.

How you will be doing this

• Getting hands on, coding, working with teams to help them achieve your shared goals. This role is about collaborating, not dictating – if you want an ivory tower, play chess.
• Finding and using tools and approaches that actually work in practice, and are not just a trending topic in the blogosphere.
• Bringing big, abstract concepts back to earth by making them simple, explainable and understood by all – technical and non-technical alike.
• Prototyping, researching and investigating possible angles for upcoming projects.
• Balancing off-the-shelf components, and building it ourselves.
• You think big and build small. In the end it’s about getting things done.

Our stack Coolblue uses quite a broad technology stack and we greatly value open standards and interoperability. We actively develop in PHP, Nodejs and C#, and maintain a large Delphi codebase. Our data is currently being handled by Oracle and MySQL RDBMS, Elasticsearch, Memcached, Redis and RavenDB. We apply continuous delivery through tools like GitHub, TeamCity, Octopus Deploy and Puppet, on both private and cloud infrastructure (Azure, AWS).

Team You collaborate with other Engineering Solutions Leads and report to our Development Manager. You’ll frequently work closely together with one or more development teams.
