The expertise of our computing staff is key to making our research happen. We work with the very latest technologies to drive advances in both hardware and software that have genuine real world applications. Whether it is the search for the Higgs Boson and dark matter, analysing climate data or genomics, our systems tackle the biggest and most challenging problems in scientific computing.

About The Role We now have an exciting opportunity for a Visualisation Software Development Group Leader to lead STFC’s Scientific Computing Department’s (SCD) software development of cutting edge scientific visualisation and image processing applications.

SCD is developing a portfolio of large-scale software development projects with the capacity to generate significant economic, scientific and social impact. • Secure grant awards for new projects from the Research Councils, EU, industry, and other sources, with a focus on joint projects with other academics.

  • Liaise with colleagues and collaborators helping to promote the use of and expertise in visualisation.

  • Project-manage selected projects. This role will require occasional UK and overseas travel. About You Suitable candidates will be educated to degree level in physical science, computer science, mathematics, or another appropriate discipline. You will have a deep understanding of visualisation hardware and software techniques, and experience in bringing this knowledge to bear in a wide range of scientific areas. You will demonstrate both people and project management experience, along with experience of securing funding. Any experience in high performance computing and in programming in a high level language (e.g. C, C++, FORTRAN, Java, or Python) will be beneficial. You will be numerically literate and able to communicate and collaborate effectively with people from diverse scientific backgrounds, especially domain scientists, numerical analysts, and computer scientists. Benefits

An exceptional index linked pension scheme, 30 days leave allowance and flexi-time are offered, as well as an onsite nursery, subsidised restaurant, gym and sports facilities. A relocation allowance may also be available where applicable.
