We recognize the value of A+ players, and compensate them accordingly.

Lots of placestalk about ‘cultural fit,’ but we have a different way of doing things. We believe in a diverse culture, where there are a variety of perspectives and points of view. If we always agree, we’re never going to improve or break new ground. So rather than get hung up on ‘cultural fit,’ let’s talk about what makes you a great addition to the King & Partners team:

You are passionate about programming. To succeed as a developer at King & Partners, you need to love programming. You dream in code. You want to ship code every day. You do it right every time, whether QA is looking or not, because you care about the quality, performance, and maintainability of your code.

You’re a quick learner. The world doesn’t stand still, and every day brings new and exciting challenges. When facing a new problem, you do the research, examine possible solutions, and learn new ways to implement. You’re self-directed, manage uncertainty, and quick on your feet.

You are curious about technology. We do a lot of our work in RoR. This, ultimately, is a RoR position, so you live by DRY and KISS, and you know the 80/20 rule. But Ruby isn’t everything–there are a lot of cool stacks out there, and you’re interested in learning about them. LAMP, MEAN, . NET, Hadoop, whatever–they all solve different problems, and you want to know more. Maybe you’re handy with a soldering iron and know how to make stuff. No matter what, you are deeply curious about technology.

You are a strategic thinker. Working code lives for a long, long time. You think ahead about how your contributions will be used down the road. You think analytically and about the big picture. Strategic thinking means stepping back and considering the business ramifications of decisions you’re making today.

You are a strong communicator. We work in teams, and know that strong interdisciplinary communications are form the cornerstone of teamwork. When you need to know something, you ask; when you know something that will help the project, you tell tell others. You look forward to documenting what you did, because miscommunication is death to a team project. You participate in the wider community, asking and answering questions on Stack Overflow or r/ruby.

You know how things work, and how to get stuff done. You live, breathe, and love TDD. You refactor as you go. You constantly think about TTFB, IPL, blocking, and page optimization. You build for operations, and you are ready to commit code on day one.
