Are you a talented Software Developer looking to be part of an elite team of product specialists and developers to build innovative apps for the growing disaster/crisis/emergency industry?

Great! We’re Noggin and we’re looking for someone just like you.

Q: Why should I join Noggin?

A: Well, we’re a Sydney based software company offering solutions to government and corporates to solve their incident / crisis / emergency / disaster / risk management problems. Our clients use our products to communicate, visualise their information and otherwise manage their response.Think natural disasters, counter terrorism and even rocket science (seriously) – its pretty interesting stuff.

Our Software Developers get involved in all aspects of the development process: from design to build to test to deploy. The focus of this specific role is backend, creating the high-performance, highly-functional, distributed information system platform.

You’ll be working with PHP predominantly as well as Golang, FlatBuffers, ZeroMQ, ElasticSearch, Docker, and AWS.However it’s still early enough in the product’s life for you to influence the direction we take. We’re also using the Atlassian suite: JIRA, Confluence and BitBucket to manage our work & code. Oh, and we’re currently using AWS for servers.

When you join us, you’ll be given a choice of Mac, Linux, or Windows laptop. The IDE you use is your call. Some use VIM, some PHPStorm, some NetBeans, and some Sublime.

Our products solve serious problems so it’s safe to say that our culture reflects this. We have a strong focus on quality, security, and usability. Plus we make sure we have a good time whilst doing it all.

Aside from Software Developers, we have business analysts, project managers, quality assurance analysts, support, infrastructure, and sales people. So we’re pretty diverse. The average age is probably around 30. Some with families, some not. The work hours are officially 9am – 5:30pm and we pride ourselves on managing things right so people don’t really have to work much outside of that.

Q: So what are Noggin looking for?

A: You have at least3years’ experience in commercial web application development using PHP 5.4+. You possess GNU/Linux skills, and experience with AWS EC2, S3, Route53, ELB, and IAM would be beneficial. You’ve also been involved in profiling PHP applications with Xdebug / Xhprof. You’ve ideally had some exposure to / experience with Golang, ZeroMQ, and Docker. You’re familiar with design patterns and DDD (Domain-driven design).

You have a strong ability to visualise complex problems, and then research and invent to solve them. You’ve got design strategy knowledge of distributed systems, high-availability, high-performance, and security. You are hell-bent on producing highly readable, beautiful code. You are a believer in Test Driven Development and that unit tests are not just an afterthought. Most of all, you’re passionate about software engineering, and can articulate your point-of-view.

Q: Awesome, what now?
