The development team at onPeak is looking for a developer who loves all things database. We don’t just want someone to administer backups and configure user accounts. We want someone who can do low level performance tuning and optimization of stored procs. Someone who sits in the land between devops and development with a mind for databases. Automation surrounding the deployment of schema changes, performance optimization in AWS EC2, caching layer optimizations are all examples of responsibilities of the job. This person should swim in SQL, marathon in mongo, and relish in redis and not be afraid of some complexity and getting their hands dirty.
The Database Developer role first and foremost responsibility is the performance, scalability and reliability of our data layer. This is primarily our MSSQL cluster which drives multiple high availability web applications, but also includes redis caching layers, Amazon Redshift datawarehouses, and mongoDB session databases. This position would also be deeply involved in database versioning systems and automated deployment of schema changes.
This position will report to the Director of Software Development.
Our small team of 10 is super casual. Even Jake from State Farm is a little formal for our office. Our team is all friendly and enjoy regular game nights, movie outtings, cook offs, etc. But if you are the loner type that is fine by us as well – nothing social is ever manditory. We all think it’s a top priority to actually like coming to work.
Our prevailing technological philosophy is a combination of simplicity and automation. Never do by hand what a machine can do better and with fewer errors. Pair programming for newer devs, and code reviews through pull requests are some of the ways we like to introduce and teach people aboutour application stack.
