We are looking for a Systems Engineer to join our growing Netherlands Team. Our office in located in the heart of Amsterdam. The ideal candidate will be comfortable improving existing systems and establishing best practices for an evolving hybrid cloud/datacenter environment. Our stack includes Python, uWSGI, MySQL, Redis, Elasticsearch, Memcached, Nginx, Chef, and more. This position will require a love of deep diving into Linux issues and fanaticism about optimization and making data-driven decisions. As a member of a small team focused on specific software components, you will help develop and improve software services that power Discogs, as well as adjacent sites such as https://vinylhub.discogs.com, https://Gearogs.com, and others. This role will play a big part in supporting and growing our community of collectors, buyers, and sellers. Considering this will require working closely with other Discogs software teams, it is critical to exercise a strong sense of initiative and collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Configure and maintain the Linux infrastructure that powers all of Discogs’ services.

  • Investigate, diagnose, and resolve performance and reliability problems in a wide range of large-scale and high-traffic services.

  • Utilize configuration management software responsible for a variety of hosts.

  • Improve existing systems by adding automation and automated testing wherever possible.

  • Make continuous improvements to our monitoring, metrics, and logging systems.

  • Collaborate with other engineering teams to perform capacity planning, performance analysis, and system availability reviews.

  • Review events that impact availability, security, and performance and guide changes to increase the resilience of systems.

  • Commit to keeping up to date with emerging infrastructure technologies and best practices.

  • Participate in evening/night and weekend on call rotation.
