The Principal Network Engineer – Backbone is responsible for designing, deploying, securing, and providing escalation support of the HERE wide area network and infrastructure within Global Network Services (GNS). The position will report to the respective Senior Network Manager.
The candidate will work on a team focusing on designing, building, deploying, and operating highly available, robust, resilient, and supportable solutions to support IT, corporate, and consumer services.
Design and Deploy
Maintain and optimize HERE’s global MPLS backbone network
Provision connectivity to partners, third parties, and cloud providers
Develop architecture and designs and translate into service requirements
Qualification of hardware and software
Define and implement configuration standards across the network and platforms
Operate and Monitor
Create and maintain high quality documentation
Troubleshoot issues and document root cause / update NOC runbooks
Establish and report on benchmarks for WAN availability, performance and capacity
Collect, analyze, and make recommendations on technical issues in own area of responsibility
Provide training and act as a leader / mentor within one’s own responsibility area.
Participate in an on-call rotation
Bachelor’s Degree in Network Engineering or equivalent practical experience
10+ years’ experience in Network Engineering and/or Operations with a background designing and supporting high availability 24x7x365 environments
Ability to work independently and as part of a group
Understanding of cultural differences; willing and able to work as part of a global team
Excellent communication and documentation skills
Hands-on experience with MPLS backbone networks running OSPF, ISIS, RSVP, LDP, and BGP
Desirable Skills
- Juniper Junos OS and/or Cisco IOS/IOS-XE/IOS-XR
- Service Provider peering and circuit provisioning
- DDoS design and deployment
- Quality of Service (QoS) technologies
- Firewall technologies
- Load balancing technologies
- Remote Access (SSL, IPSEC)
