We’re looking for a full-time senior network engineer to join our Engineering team.
Our Engineering team responds to the needs of the business, delivering well-designed and strategically aligned technology solutions in network architecture and design, customer acquisition, network service provider connectivity, and operations and support systems.

Responsibilities
Lead the design of open access community fiber-optic networks
Create network diagrams showing switches, fiber connections, bandwidth capacities, and other networking attributes
Create detailed bills of materials, and assist in sourcing materials
Rack and stack equipment in data center in community or region (some travel required)
Install and configure network operating systems for SDN access
Build a virtualized edge infrastructure
Connect network to AWS environment
Assist with connection of network to NOC vendor
Maintain infrastructure-as-code in git repositories
Configure and maintain VPN connections as required
Deploy network monitoring software and enable monitoring of community networks
Ensure security and compliance for perimeter and internal services
Troubleshoot and resolve issues on our internal network as needed (community network operations will be outsourced)
Assist in evaluating vendors for network equipment, materials, and construction
Provide IT support on an ad hoc basis for our regional offices and employees
Advise in strategic technology decisions for internal systems and open access community fiber-optic networks

Requirements
At least 10 years experience in Network Engineering, preferably in the telecommunications industry
At least 3 years experience with Software Defined Networking and SD-WANs
Familiarity with major municipal network architectures and standards such as GPON, Active Ethernet, DOCSIS, and HFC
Solid foundation in DevOps and infrastructure-as-code principles with tools such as Ansible or Terraform
Deep knowledge of network protocols and standards, especially ethernet routing, switching, bridging, virtual LANs, QinQ, OpenFlow, and ONAP
Hands-on experience with fiber-optic network equipment, cabling, and connections
Expert with Linux operating systems, and especially with Linux networking
In-depth experience at scale with at least one virtualization technology such as VMware
Proficiency in shell scripting such as Bash, and with at least one scripting language such as Python, Javascript, etc.
Familiarity with IT compliance areas such as change management, incident response, and configuration management
Vendor management experience, including initial and annual diligence and contract negotiation
Familiarity with access control, centralized systems management, inventory management and directory management such as LDAP/ActiveDirectory and SSO
Familiarity with network and connectivity troubleshooting from both a user endpoint perspective as well as server and networking infrastructure perspective.
Cisco, Juniper, or similar network design, configuration, and/or operations certifications a big plus
