Climate Central is an independent organization of leading scientists and journalists researching and reporting the facts about our changing climate and its impact on the public. We are seeking the services of a talented and motivated front-end web developer to assist uswitha greenfieldimplementation of a new design forhttps://https://www.climatecentral.org, our core web property. We are redesigning the site both from a UI/UX perspective,and a technical perspective. The new site will be built adhering to JAMStack principles, static pre-generation and CDN deployment where possible.
UI/UX designthrough a 3rd party firm is at beginning stages, but contentmigration to Contentful CMS is mature. At this point in the project we’re looking for a skilleddeveloper that canexecute the frontend design with high fidelity, using the new CMS, while building a high-quality new website codebase and documentation that can be owned and maintained effectively by Climate Central for the next decade. This will be the only pure coding role on the project, but the successful candidate will workcollaboratively with other technical team members, and non-technical stakeholders.
This position is fully remote, on independent contract basis. We are open to working either on an hourly basis, orestablishing a budget and schedule based on scoping conversations and resulting contract agreement. In any case, this is a high profile project on a tight schedule, so we’ll need commitment toagreed uponschedule and availability. The successful candidate will be introduced to the project early in UI/UX design stages,using modern design sharing and review tools. We expect the development workload to initially be rate-limited by design progress, butto ramp up as the design matures this fall.
Essential qualifications for this role:
10+ years professional experience developing software
Thorough knowledge of essential modern web technologies: HTML5, CSS3, ES6+ JavaScript
5+ years experience with ReactJS
3+ years experience using static site generators
Experience with JAMStack architectures
Experience with GatsbyJS and/or GraphQL
Commitment to tasks assigned, and thorough communication
Preference will be given to candidates who:
Have a track record of successful websitebuilds for 3rd parties
Have experience withContentful CMS
Have experience with automated deployment services such as Netlify
Location
This position is fully remote. Climate Central’s headquarters are in Princeton, N. J., operating under standard US Eastern time business hours. Substantial overlap with these operating hours is preferable, but we are flexible. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.
Compensation
Compensation is competitive for a mission-driven non-profit. Hourly rate or project fees will depend on qualifications.
