Over the last 15 years, companies like AWS, Stripe, and Twilio have helped developers offload anything not core to their apps so they can focus on what matters to their users. Despite a lot of progress in developer tooling, most developers still roll their own authorization.

You have probably started with something quick ‘n dirty – some IF statements and roles in a database, which may not be pretty but gets the job doneuntil you needed to add more features, and more features. And inevitably every team band-aids onto this system until they do a big refactor. Have you seen this before?

At Oso, we’re building the first batteries-included framework for authorization so developers don’t have to roll it on their own anymore. We’re building slick APIs so they can get started quickly, and a fully-fledged policy language under the hood so they can customize their system however they need. We don’t rely on product managers to spec out projects– the engineers on the team take big problems, experiment with solutions and ship a superhuman experience for our users.

To date, our CTO/cofounder, Sam, has led product, engineering, evangelism and customer development. We are hiring an Engineering Leader to take the mantle on engineering. You will work closely with Sam, but the expectation is that you will lead the team yourself and bring your own perspective so you can grow, inspire and accelerate the team. Joining now, you’ll not only have a disproportionately large impact on this group of engineers, but also on the culture and future of the company.

A note on titles: We could have called this role "VP of Engineering" or "Director of Engineering," but chose not to. Our rationale is that titles should be descriptive so that folks internally and externally know who is who and what their scope is. While we expect you to operate at the most senior levels in the company, we also expect that your scope and a simple "Leader" title will speak for itself.

Oso is an equal opportunity employer. All applicants will be considered for employment regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran or disability status.
