You will be part of a global team developing and expanding our Trade Facilitation offering (TLIP). As a senior software engineer, you will help shape this infrastructure, working alongside highly skilled engineers focused on advanced digital identity and distributed ledger technologies.

This program is supported by an established consortium of internationally recognized organizations, including the World Economic Forum, the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, the Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation, the Institute of Export & International Trade, and the IOTA Foundation. As a senior engineer, you will design, code, test, and deliver new products and services in close collaboration with the wider TLIP technical team. You will be a versatile full-stack developer with strong front-end and back-end capabilities, and DevOps skills will be an advantage. You must be competent in both unit testing and end-to-end testing and debugging. You should be comfortable with modern development practices and able to switch quickly between tasks as needed.

In addition to your current assignments, you should always take a holistic approach—considering how your work fits with the rest of the system architecture. The ideal candidate will have true full-stack experience building highly scalable systems. Experience in international trade, B2B, and supply chain digitization is a plus.

The TLIP technical team includes 11 people in Kenya, 5 people in Europe, collaboration support from IOTA Foundation’s 120+ employees, and additional partners worldwide; the team is growing. This role is open to candidates in Europe. You will work remotely and must be willing to travel for meetings and workshops.

Key responsibilities:
– Design and build back-end and front-end solutions
– Collaborate with other teams to gather requirements and request features
– Provide supporting materials for other teams to use your work (e.g., documentation, examples)
– Deliver high-quality, fully tested code
– Minimum of seven-plus years of software development experience
– Experience building, integrating, and supporting large, complex applications
– Strong command of TypeScript/JavaScript and the ability to understand complex technical requirements
– Experience writing and working with REST APIs, OpenAPI, and Node.js
– Unit testing and end-to-end (E2E) testing
– Proficiency with source control and task management tools (e.g., Git, Jira)
– Familiarity with Agile methodologies
– High proficiency in English
– Optional: Familiarity with Rust
– Optional: Familiarity with blockchain and smart contract technologies
– Optional: DevOps experience
– Optional: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in computer science or a related field

About TLIP:
TLIP is built on IOTA’s decentralized infrastructure technology, enabling governments and businesses to securely and trustworthily exchange trade data. The platform is already live in Kenya, integrated into government systems and used by organizations of all sizes to streamline international trader administration and processes. The next phase will expand TLIP into international markets, with the UK and EU as primary focus areas. Digitalizing fragmented, paper-based international trade procedures through platforms such as TLIP improves efficiency and reduces the cost of accessing international markets. Developing economies and small trader communities can benefit significantly from expanded market access, which supports local growth and job creation. A digital trade capability can also help monitor and regulate the environmental impact of international trade more effectively. More information: https://www.tlip.io

TLIP’s core principles include supporting emerging economies through a not-for-profit governing foundation and providing access to code via open-source principles. Large companies and governments connect through open APIs, while supply chains also include many small and mid-sized companies—across both the Northern and Southern hemispheres—that use web-based and mobile applications.

What we offer:
– Ongoing challenges and opportunities to grow your skills
– Be part of a growing international team
– Join a fast-growing global organization delivering cutting-edge technology
– Exposure to leading international organizations, governments, and industry partners
– The chance to make a high-impact contribution
– Work with top engineers in the field
– Flexibility in planning with responsibility for delivery
– A casual, friendly, and fun work environment

Compensation: $60,000 — $100,000/year
