Motion Math creates delightful award-winning games that help students master math. We’ve recently been awarded grants from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Noyce Foundation to create a platform that measures how games help students learn. Central to this effort is presenting elementary school teachers with relevant, clear formative data from math games. This data can tell us a lot about student mastery, and it can reduce the need for demotivating high-stakes tests. We’re hiring an interaction/graphic designer to define how our teacher data tool should function, feel, and look. This is a three-month contract that could lead to a full-time position.

Your mission: Create a high-fidelity digital prototype that will help teachers cultivate flow, differentiate, and communicate with students and parents using digital learning data. Teachers who see your prototype will be dying to use it in reality; it will be technically feasible; it will be built from a rigorous design process.

You’ll be collaborating with our team of engineers and educators. Here’s our rough sense of what the process could involve: • Visit and interview elementary teachers to understand data needs. •Survey existing classroom data solutions, including our existing beta dashboard. •Survey successful data designs in industries with similarities to teaching. •Synthesize designs into a compelling problem statement. •Build prototypes, test with teachers, iterate. •Guide engineering team with clear interaction documentation, polished UI mockups, and suggestions for future exploration.

Requirements: •Experience running a rigorous, creative design process that uncovers and synthesizes user needs. •A portfolio of delightfully useful designs. •Graphic design expertise – you can quickly sketch ideas and also create polished stylish final products. •Experience designing digital interfaces that make data clear and actionable. •Passion for improving educational outcomes by helping teachers.
