About us

Flashbots was founded in 2020 as a research and development group focused on reducing the risks and negative side effects associated with Maximal Extractable Value (MEV). Since then, we’ve made a major impact on the crypto ecosystem through mev-geth, Flashbots Protect, MEV-Boost, MEV-Share, our open research, and the upcoming SUAVE.

Our mission is simple: bring clarity, broaden access, and distribute value.

We aim to ensure that the value generated on decentralized public blockchains is transparent and fairly shared. We do this by pursuing advanced research, creating essential infrastructure, and coordinating a diverse community with varied interests.

Our culture is bold, unconventional, skilled, and independent. We’re explorers, hackers, builders, and thinkers. We operate with calm confidence, but beneath that, we are driven to excel.

About the role

Flashbots is looking for a Distributed Systems Engineer to lead the design and development of our distributed block-building system. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys solving hard technical problems, communicates well, and has a strong builder mindset.

You will help develop a cutting-edge distributed system and navigate complex trade-offs involving latency, privacy, fault tolerance, and incentives.

What you’ll do

– Contribute to building the distributed Block Builder, SUAVE, and SUAPPS using your Rust or Go experience
– Design and refine high-performance, fault-tolerant distributed systems
– Develop reliable networking layers and P2P protocols
– Collaborate with leading mechanism designers at the intersection of incentives and distributed systems
– Produce clear technical documentation and diagrams for internal and public use
– Support community engagement and help build strategic partnerships in crypto

What we look for

– Strong experience with production-grade distributed systems and 4–10 years working deeply with Rust or Go. Capable of designing scalable, high-throughput systems while balancing availability, consistency, and latency
– Expertise in fault tolerance, with deep knowledge of Byzantine Fault Tolerance (BFT) and robust system models, including extensive experience validating consensus and distributed system protocols
– Meaningful open-source contributions and active involvement in technical discussions
– A versatile problem-solver who anticipates issues early and delivers impactful solutions across different areas

Nice to have

– Experience with Ethereum clients or related infrastructure such as indexers or P2P networks
– Smart contract development skills in Solidity or similar languages
– Familiarity with formal methods like TLA+ for modeling distributed systems
– Strong understanding of permissionless systems and their challenges
– Thought leadership in blockchain, especially in the Ethereum space

Details that matter

– Equity compensation well above market norms
– Unlimited PTO with strong autonomy in how you work
– Comprehensive health insurance for US-based employees
– $3000 annual budget for learning and development
– Work with top talent in the crypto industry
– Contribute to keeping crypto decentralized, permissionless, and censorship-resistant
– Fully remote role—work from anywhere
– Paid travel for two team on-sites per year plus occasional event travel

Flashbots is dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. We encourage applications from all qualified individuals regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, age, or disability.
