Solium needs developers who want to write great software.

We’re currently looking for a Ruby on Rails Developer for Scenarios, the killer app used by leading venture capital investors, private company CFOs, and their advisors to perform valuation analysis and to model financing events and exit transactions.

You aren’t dogmatic, you’re pragmatic. You aren’t AGILE, but develop iteratively using many of those practices. You care about unit tests and code reviews, and when the build breaks, you don’t run git blame, you find the root cause and fix it. You embrace the hard problems.

It doesn’t matter if it’s Ruby or C++, MySQL or Oracle, Rails or SWIG – you know it or know you can pick it up. You care about building commercial products that people use – you want to make the world a better place, and Ruby on Rails is your weapon of choice. We are looking for developers of all experience levels to help us build a fast, reliable, secure and resilient enterprise platform. We aren’t necessarily looking for rock stars or ninjas, but some of us are in bands and some of us like to run.

Things we believe:

  • Free tools are great unless they aren’t the best. We use high-end workstations with big monitors, Macs, and things like RubyMine and the Atlassian suite of tools to keep us in the zone.

  • Results matter, not the clock

Things we like:

  • Prior experience working with a distributed team in an agile environment

  • Prior experience with technologies we use (Ruby on Rails, C++, SWIG, MySQL, Oracle, Redis, Resque, jQuery, REST, Capistrano, Enterprise Java)

  • A hunger for tracking down root causes – no matter how deep the rabbit hole

  • A demonstrated competency with complex mathematical concepts

  • A BS in CS is appreciated but not necessary with the right background

  • A sense of humour and good aim with a Nerf gun

What you’ll do:

  • Be customer focused – learn about the business to help bring value to our customers

  • Act technology driven – design, implement, and test new functionality

  • Work closely with QA – we fix our own bugs

  • Work with Product Management to keep our battle station fully operational

  • Do full stack dev from the DB to the UI

  • Use your experience to push the whole team to be better

What you’ll get:

  • Market rate salary based on experience

  • Participation in annual bonus plan and stock incentives

  • Share Purchase Plan with company contributions (we are public and profitable!)

  • Casual Environment – we aren’t a bank, they just happen to be clients.

  • 20 Paid Days off + 11 stat holidays (and 4 week sabbatical after five years)

  • Work how you want – Linux or OS X (sorry, Windows can’t handle the truth)

  • The occasional spontaneous Nerf War

If you’ve read this far, and you’re thinking, ‘I have to talk to these guys’, we agree! Just send an email to dev-careers@solium.com and we’ll talk about how your career is about to get better.
