We’re looking for a talented, inspired, self-sufficient writer who can run our newsroom on Saturdays and Sundays.

The ideal candidate has a background in journalism and is proficient at social media. The Weekend Editor should be capable of identifying which stories matter for the site and be able to produce clear, compelling copy for several articles per day.

As Weekend Editor, you will be responsible for the following:

Ensuring the site is maintained throughout the weekend (Saturday/Sunday). Write/curate a mix of 8-10 original, aggregated and Associated Press stories on Saturday and again on Sunday on breaking, viral, lifestyle and evergreen content, always with the goal of elevating RYOT’s editorial output.

Ensure that all posts you write and edit are error-free, thoroughly researched, properly credited, and published in RYOT’s tone and voice.

Since we link every story to an action, you must always ensure all stories you write and edit are connected to the best possible action you and the author could identify.

Identify potential freelance contributors and work with them to ensure content is published to match RYOT’s standards on the weekends.

Work with social media editor to push and promote content, in line with the current strategy, on Facebook and Twitter throughout the weekend. Familiarity with Facebook boosting/advertising platform highly encouraged.

Strong possibility for full time role if interested. Also potential for freelance projects within RYOT editorial.
