GRESB has unveiled its 2025 Real Estate Standard updates, ushering in several material changes for participating real estate organizations. With a stronger focus on performance-based assessment, these updates will impact how energy efficiency, renewable energy, embodied carbon, and ESG initiatives are scored and reported. 🟪 The big takeaway: for the first time, energy efficiency will get scored recognition. High-performing assets will be rewarded – even without year-over-year improvements – and can expect to see score increases on the 2025 assessment. A flurry of climate-related legislating has taken place at the state level since the end of January. As of last week, four states have proposed new carbon accounting and disclosure regulations that mirror laws in California and the EU. It's a sign that while federal-level climate activity may be on the back burner, statehouses around the country are losing no momentum.
