INSO’s In Extremis: Coordination in Crisis Roundtable at HNPW 🚨 Earlier this week at HNPW, INSO led a roundtable on "In Extremis: Coordination in Crisis"— bringing together country director's from a number of countries INSO works in to discuss how INSO and NGOs navigate extreme risks, uncertainty, and programme continuity in some of the world’s most volatile contexts. Key Takeaways: - Planning & Agility in Crisis – Effective planning is crucial for managing extreme physical risks. Plans must be continuously tested to remain reliable. but organisations also have to be able to pivot quickly. Defining red lines provides flexibility during uncertainty and allows for faster decision-making. - Coordination Gaps & Lessons Learned – During acute crises there are often gaps in coordination, leading to multiple actors competing for leadership, slowing response efforts - highlighting the need for defined and coordinated response. This is often where INSO steps in to provide clear coordination of security response. - Decision-Making: During a crisis, risks often shift quickly yet organisations struggled to react in time. Decision-making must be based on real-time data, not delayed by waiting for perfect information. - Adapting in a Constant Crisis: Following critical incident, the humanitarian crisis continues and the security situation may not dramatically improve, and in some contexts deteriorates further. In such contexts NGOs, including INSO, are responding by expanding communication lines, strengthening coordination networks, and diversifying evacuation strategies. The biggest lesson? Policies must be adaptable. Crisis response is evolving—our strategies must evolve with it. 💡 A huge thank you to all who joined the discussion. Let’s keep the conversation going.

🚨 Join us online for the start of HNPW's Virtual Week! 🚨 In times of acute security crises, coordination is essential—but often incredibly challenging. We’re bringing together a panel of INSO staff with firsthand experience coordinating NGO evacuations, relocations, and crisis response in Sudan, Gaza, Haiti, Mozambique, and beyond. They’ll share personal reflections, key lessons learned, and the critical factors that not only help humanitarian actors remove staff from immediate danger but also support their safe return and adaptation to evolving risks. 🔗 Register now: https://lnkd.in/e3_aaark

As anticipated last week we received our termination letters for many of our USAID grants. Despite this financial challenge as INSO we endeavor to maintain continued service to our 1,300+ international and national NGO partners across all 20 of our country programmes. Over the last decade our partnership with USAID has allowed INSO to enhance the #safety & #security of #aidworkers across the world, not only as a donor but as an ally and advocate for #humanitarian space. The loss of thousands of dedicated USAID staff will be sorely felt at a time when #humanitarian space is increasingly under threat.
