Metabase makes it easy for anyone to uncover insights from their data, whether they’re part of a small startup getting set up quickly or a large enterprise with tens of thousands of users. That’s why so many people love using it.
We bring the simplicity and polish of consumer-grade products to the often complicated world of enterprise business intelligence. Our open source platform offers a clear opinion on how organizations should measure, analyze, and share their data, and it’s already trusted by tens of thousands of companies.
We’re seeking outstanding software engineers to help us tackle the complex work that makes life simpler for our users. Our stack includes Clojure, JavaScript, and TypeScript, and we’re looking for candidates with experience shipping production code in one or more of these languages. You’ll be responsible for delivering major end-to-end features across both our JavaScript and Clojure codebases, as well as handling challenging backend problems as they emerge. Familiarity with machine learning, compiler theory, or modern big data technologies is a plus. Strong product intuition and a deep commitment to user experience are essential.
We are currently hiring for multiple backend engineering roles.
About You
• Experience with Clojure, or strong motivation to learn it
• Proven ability to ship complex products
• Solid computer science foundation, gained through education or real-world production work
• Strong technical judgment and the ability to communicate your reasoning clearly
• Nice to have: experience with JDBC and database integrations
• Nice to have: knowledge of the Java ecosystem and JVM tuning
• Nice to have: prior open source contributions
• Nice to have: experience with JavaScript or TypeScript, since our frontend uses both
Our team is global (half of us are based outside the U.S.) and fully distributed—from Thailand to California. We work asynchronously, with plenty of uninterrupted time, supporting one another in doing the best work of our careers. We offer flexibility in schedule and location, autonomy, and an environment that encourages growth and learning. We are deeply focused on users and committed to building long-term value rather than short-term fixes. We also raised a $30M Series B to continue advancing our mission for years to come.
For U.S. candidates: Metabase participates in the federal E-Verify program, which confirms employment authorization for newly hired U.S.-based employees. E-Verify is used only after hiring and is not a pre-screening tool.
