If you’re interested in Canada’s regulatory landscape and financial crime, this role is for you. Our Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Operations team is responsible for identifying, responding to, and reducing both inherent and residual risks related to money laundering and terrorist financing at Wealthsimple.
In this role, you will learn and understand:
– The types of money laundering and terrorist financing risks Wealthsimple faces, and what a risk-based approach involves
– Wealthsimple’s regulatory obligations, policies, and procedures for preventing money laundering and terrorist financing
– How AML Operations helps reduce risk for Wealthsimple
– The due diligence process and the sources of information behind it
– How to identify and report suspicious client activity
– How you’ll apply these skills in practice
You’ll also have the opportunity to:
– Review and investigate alerts produced through standard policies, procedures, and tools, aligned with internal and external AML regulatory requirements
– Work with alerts such as:
– Automated Transaction Monitoring
– Cryptocurrency AML Ledger Screening
– Name screening against Adverse Media, PEP, Economic Sanctions, and Terrorism lists
– Enhanced Due Diligence reviews for high-risk clients and Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs)
– Use critical thinking, data analysis, and pattern detection to uncover financial crime
– Use internal systems and tools to gather information and document alert results
– Handle multiple alerts at once while meeting Service Level Agreements within required timeframes
– Join calibration sessions with peers and relevant internal teams to spot financial crime trends
We’re seeking someone with:
– 1+ years of experience in financial technology or a technology-driven financial services environment
– Experience with AML/CTF programs is an advantage
– Strong accuracy and attention to detail to ensure thorough, precise reviews
– Resourcefulness and persistence, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced setting
– The ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
– Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and requirements while staying current on evolving regulations and industry standards
– The ability to analyze datasets and identify anomalies and patterns
– A proactive, ownership-driven mindset
– Strong communication skills, both verbally and in written reports
– An interest in technology and a desire to learn about the AML field
